After a month-long hiatus, What I’m Working On* is back! I have a really special episode planned for you today and I think you’re all going to be inspired and motivated to tackle your dreams after you watch! You can view previous episodes here.
My lovely guest is Lauren from Lauren Renee Designs. Lauren is an incredible photographer and the genius behind my beautiful head shots. I was so fortunate to be connected to her via our mutual friend, Kara (thanks Kara!), and we’ve had a blossoming friendship ever since.
Lauren works incredibly hard, balancing a full-time job as an administrative coordinator and her booming photography, art, and design business.
What I love about Lauren is that she’s passionate about what she does. Her work is light, fresh, and intimate. I mean, how amazing are these pictures?!
This episode has so much goodness, especially for those of you who are considering transitioning to a full-time business or are struggling to balance your work/life/side hustle. Before we hop into the episode, I thought I’d give you an update on my #WIWO situation. A few weeks ago, I gave a BONUS episode on Periscope (If you’re not on Periscope yet, what are you waiting for?), but here’s an update for those of you who missed it:
Still on the job hunt. I’ve been working through Skillcrush’s Web Designer course and I really love it. Even though I already have a basic foundation of web design, this course has still been really beneficial. I’m currently working on building a professional portfolio, designed and coded by myself, and I think it will really give me that extra boost I’ve been looking for. I reached a point last week where I got really discouraged by the job search, as you might have seen on Instagram, but I think it’s important to give myself permission to take a rest. In the end, balance is what makes the difference between success and doing enough.
On the Blog
July was a great month for me with Ampersand Creative. After battling through blog funk for all of June and part of May, I was so excited to break free from the comparison trap and fraudy feelings and feel motivated about my work! I’ll be sharing my income and traffic report soon, but after June, pretty much it had to go up from there :) I have some really cool collaborations coming up and some potential guest posts in the works for August that I’m working on! If you want to make sure you’re “in the know,” you can subscribe to my newsletter here.
During the mission trip I recently took as a chaperone, I had the opportunity to almost fully unplug. And man was that awesome. It really gave me some perspective on setting boundaries and giving your mind a chance to rest. Additionally, I received a FitBit as a gift from my parents on my 25th birthday and it has been the perfect motivator to get me moving more often and drinking more water. I have started using Made Vibrant’s Creative Progress Maps to visually track my progress and hold me even more accountable.
